Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 216:
Description
54 x 60 This mid-20th-century American scrap quilt is constructed from a variety of cotton fabrics including floral prints, stripes, polka dots, and solids. The quilt features a grid of patchwork blocks set within a green, red, and white diagonal plaid cotton sashing. Each square block is composed of three vertical segments, with the central segment further subdivided into three smaller horizontal patches. The piece is finished with a solid lavender-pink cotton backing and displays hand-quilting in a traditional fan or clamshell pattern. The construction exhibits irregular hand-stitching typical of handmade utility quilts from this period.
