Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 167:
Description
66 x 76 This vintage quilt top is designed in the Grandmother’s Flower Garden pattern, a traditional American folk art design. The piece is constructed from individual cotton hexagons joined by hand-stitching. Each floral motif is typically composed of a central yellow hexagon, an inner ring of solid-colored fabric, and an outer ring of coordinating floral or geometric calico prints. These motifs are set against a field of white or off-white connecting hexagons. The assortment of printed fabrics is indicative of mid-20th-century scrap quilting and includes period-appropriate feed sack materials. This item is an unfinished quilt top, consisting only of the pieced front without batting, backing, or binding.
