Description
60 x 70 A vintage hand-quilted patchwork quilt, likely of American origin, dating from the mid-20th century. The design features twenty large octagonal blocks arranged in a grid, with each block containing a central eight-pointed star variation resembling a LeMoyne Star. These blocks are constructed from a diverse assortment of vintage printed fabrics, including small-scale florals, stripes, paisleys, and novelty motifs such as umbrellas and bows. The octagonal blocks are set against a lattice of pink and white floral diamond-shaped patches and finished with a simple pink fabric binding. The piece is hand-quilted throughout, featuring visible running stitches in a dark pink or red thread that follow the geometric outlines of the patchwork. The backing is composed of a solid pink fabric, likely cotton or linen. The variety of prints, specifically the novelty shirting and small floral patterns, are characteristic of American quilts from the 1930s through the 1950s.
