Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 142:
Description
72 x 76 This textile is an unfinished quilt top, hand-pieced and appliqu?d in a palette of red, sage green, and off-white. The central design features a complex geometric star, similar in construction to a Feathered Star pattern, surrounded by squares and triangles. A notable feature is the extensive use of a sawtooth or shark’s teeth border, composed of numerous small, hand-stitched triangles that edge the primary star points and internal blocks. The fabric appears to be a lightweight, plain-weave cotton or a cotton-linen blend. The reverse side shows exposed hand-stitching and raw seam allowances, confirming its status as an unfinished top rather than a completed quilt. A wide red border strip frames the central patterned field.
