Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 43:
Description
70 x 84 This hand-stitched yo-yo quilt features a checkerboard pattern alternating between solid cream-colored blocks and multi-colored scrap blocks. Each larger square block is constructed from a seven-by-seven grid of individual fabric rosettes, totaling forty-nine yo-yos per block. These rosettes are created by gathering circular fabric pieces at the center and joining them at the edges with hand-stitching. The materials consist of various cotton and cotton-blend fabrics, including a wide array of prints such as calicos, florals, and ginghams characteristic of mid-20th-century feedsack textiles. The piece is unbacked and un-quilted, resulting in a lightweight, lace-like coverlet structure.
