Description

76 x 84 This is an American Jacquard woven coverlet dating from the mid-19th century. The textile is constructed from two panels of loom-width fabric joined by a horizontal center seam. It is woven from indigo-dyed wool and natural-colored cotton yarns in a traditional two-tone palette of deep blue and cream. The design features a repeating pattern of geometric medallions enclosing varied floral and foliate motifs, including central multi-petaled blossoms and stylized leafy branches. These medallions are framed by multiple decorative borders incorporating zig-zag, dotted, and diamond-grid geometric patterns. The weave exhibits a reversible pattern, characteristic of mid-19th century American folk textiles.
