Description
This is a circular porcelain enamel advertising sign for Sunset Gasoline, a brand produced by the Sunset Pacific Oil Company of California during the late 1920s and early 1930s. The sign features a central graphic of a stylized sunset with a red sun, yellow radiating rays, and blue clouds over a blue body of water. To the left and right of the central graphic are yellow winged wheel logos. The top of the sign features the brand name SUNSET in large yellow serif lettering, while the bottom reads GASOLINE in matching typography. A central yellow ribbon contains the corporate name SUNSET PACIFIC OIL CO in red sans-serif characters. The entire graphic is set against a green field with a thin red border along the outer edge. The sign is constructed of heavy-gauge metal with a fused porcelain enamel finish. No manufacturer’s mark or date stamp is visible on the front or reverse.
