Description
This is a Ferdinand Strauss Corporation Sand and Gravel clockwork dump truck, manufactured in the United States during the early 20th century. The toy is constructed of lithographed tin (sheet metal) and features a multi-color scheme consisting of an orange hood, a green chassis, and a red gravity-dump hopper with a blue-painted interior. A lithographed tin driver figure wearing a red coat and cap is seated in the open-air compartment. The side panels of the hopper are lithographed in yellow with the text SAND – and – GRAVEL accompanied by decorative ray motifs. A yellow oval trademark containing an eight-pointed stylized floral or sunburst symbol, the primary logo for the Ferdinand Strauss Corporation, is visible on the rear panel and the passenger side of the hopper. The toy is equipped with an internal clockwork mechanism powered by an integrated wind-up key located on the right side of the chassis.
