Description
This lot comprises a group of World War II-era US Army infantry memorabilia including decorations, uniform components, and field equipment. The centerpiece is a Purple Heart medal, featuring a gold-toned profile of George Washington on a purple heart-shaped center, suspended from a purple ribbon with white edges. The medal is housed in its original black leatherette presentation case with a gold-tooled border and the words PURPLE HEART embossed on the lid. The collection also includes a Good Conduct Medal depicting an American eagle perched on a book and sword with the words EFFICIENCY HONOR FIDELITY, suspended from a red and white striped ribbon. This medal remains in its original blue cardboard box with a label identifying the manufacturer as Medallic Art Co., dated 1943 and 1944. Two ribbon bars are included, representing the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign and the Good Conduct Medal. Uniform insignia consist of a large stamped brass service cap badge featuring the Great Seal of the United States, a brass collar disk with the letters US, and a brass infantry branch collar disk featuring crossed rifles. The lot also includes a P-38 folding metal can opener stamped US SHELBY CORP.
