Description
This is an original mid-20th-century vertical advertising thermometer for Camel Cigarettes, manufactured by the Robertson Steel & Iron Co. of Springfield, Ohio. The sign is constructed of lithographed embossed tin and features a vibrant red background. At the top, the brand name Camels is displayed in large yellow block lettering above the slogan Have a REAL Cigarette! in white script. The central portion features an embossed three-dimensional representation of a soft pack of Camel cigarettes with several individual cigarettes protruding from the top. The pack graphics include the classic camel figure set against a desert landscape with pyramids and palm trees, accompanied by the text TURKISH & DOMESTIC BLEND CIGARETTES. To the right of the cigarettes is a printed temperature scale ranging from -30 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit, housing a glass spirit-filled thermometer tube. The base of the sign reads SOLD HERE in bold white block letters. The manufacturer name ROBERTSON is printed in small letters at the bottom center edge. The reverse side features a gray primed finish. 13.5 inches H x 5.75 inches W.
