June Antiques and Collectibles Consignment
Lot 6:
Description
This large antique copper pitcher is crafted in the traditional Ottoman or Turkish style, featuring a hand hammered construction. The vessel is designed with a tapered conical neck transitioning into a wide, flared bell shaped body that rests on a short circular base. It is equipped with a domed lid topped with a cast brass or bronze fluted melon finial, which is secured to the handle by a simple metal chain. The heavy cast metal handle is of scrolling form and is attached to the neck and shoulder with rivets. Decorative elements include multiple incised horizontal bands and a single band of chased rope twist pattern encircling the shoulder. The interior of the vessel shows evidence of traditional tinning. No maker marks or hallmarks were observed during inspection.
