Lot 85:
Glazed Earthenware Botanical Jardiniere
Sold for: $50
Description
A large, globular glazed earthenware jardiniere featuring a wide, ruffled or crimped rim. The vessel tapers to a circular foot and is decorated with hand-painted slip ornamentation in the standard glaze tradition. The exterior transitions from a dark brown-to-black ground into a warm burnt-sienna tone. One side is decorated with a botanical composition, including a large palm frond in olive green and variegated foliage in shades of orange and russet. The interior is finished in a contrasting mustard-yellow glaze. The base shows three small, darkened circular kiln stilt marks arranged in a triangle from the firing process. There are no maker marks, signatures, or impressed numbers present on the base, which exhibits a clear, fine-line crazed glaze over a yellow-toned clay body.
