Description
9.5 x 6 inches. A utilitarian cast iron spittoon, also known as a cuspidor, featuring a broad flared rim and a squat, bulbous body. The interior of the bowl is finished with a thick coating of white vitreous porcelain enamel. The exterior of the metal body has been finished with a gold-tone metallic wash or paint, which shows significant wear throughout. A horizontal casting seam is visible around the middle of the body, indicating sand-cast construction. The base is flat and shows surface oxidation and pitting. No maker’s marks, stamps, or labels are visible on the exterior or the base of the vessel.
