Description
5 x 5 x 24 inches. A 19th-century American folk art utility box, hand-crafted from dark-stained oak. The object is designed for wall mounting, featuring a tall, vertical backboard that tapers at the upper corners and contains a single circular hanging hole. The base consists of a square-format open box joined to the backboard. The construction is characterized by the use of small, square-head oxidized iron nails visible along the seams and the bottom panel. The wood surface displays a prominent grain and a dark, aged patina. No signatures, maker’s marks, or stamps are visible on the exterior or interior surfaces of the wood.
