Description
19 x 8 inches. A pair of folk art duck decoys, likely representing black ducks or hen mallards. The bodies are constructed from coarse, textured cork painted in a dark charcoal gray tone, set upon flat wooden bases. Each decoy features a wooden keel weighted with an inset oval lead strip on the underside. The carved wooden heads are fixed with inset glass eyes and are finished in a tan and dark brown paint scheme to depict facial plumage. The upper bodies are decorated with light cream-colored flecking, while the tail sections feature stylized feathering rendered in cream-colored paint. The underside of one decoy (photo 4) bears hand-written characters in black ink, including a B, S, and H followed by 4 and H; these characters are not legible as a complete name or word.
