Description

49 x 39.5 x 14 inches. A primitive 19th-century storage cupboard of single-piece pine construction with an aged natural finish. The case features square nail construction throughout. The top is a flat overhanging board above two board-and-batten doors. The doors are secured by four external iron butt hinges and a wooden swivel turn-latch at the top. The right-hand door has a simple keyhole without an escutcheon. The interior contains three fixed wooden shelves, and the back is finished with vertical wooden planks. The upper front rail bears incised characters. On the left side of the rail are the letters B and M followed by two vertical lines. To the right, there are smaller, less distinct incised markings that are not clearly legible as specific script or numbers. A prominent knot with a natural hole is located on the left side panel.
