Description

Height: 15 inches Length: 7 inches. This set comprises two primitive style cloth rag dolls, including a seated female figure and a four-legged animal companion, possibly a dog. The dolls are constructed from a heavy, coarse-weave textile in a light tan color, characteristic of linen or burlap. The female figure follows a faceless folk art tradition with a simple rounded head and stuffed limbs. She is dressed in a multi-patterned patchwork dress composed of various cotton fabrics in plaid, checked, and striped motifs featuring tones of pink, brown, and tan. A solid tan fabric bonnet is tied at her neck with a blue and tan striped ribbon. The animal companion is rendered in the same tan base fabric and features dark brown velvet-like ears, small dark bead-like eyes, and a stitched mouth. The animal wears a plaid fabric collar that coordinates with the primary figure’s dress. A hand-stitched repair is visible on the animal’s front right leg, executed with dark thread in a cross-stitch pattern over a fabric patch. There are no maker marks, signatures, or labels present on either item.
