Description

132 x 84 inches. Some thinning. A double size woven bedspread manufactured by Bates in Lewiston, Maine. This piece features a reversible jacquard weave in a deep purple and off-white colorway. The traditional American folk art-inspired design consists of large stylized floral medallions arranged in a grid, interspersed with eight-pointed stars and eagle motifs. The eagles are depicted with outspread wings and are flanked by four cross-hatch symbols. The edges are finished with a knotted fringe and a crochet-style header. The reverse side shows the inverse color scheme of white motifs on a purple ground. A white fabric label is sewn to one corner, featuring a blue printed crown icon above the script name Bates, with the text BEDSPREADS, PRESHRUNK, and DOUBLE SIZE below.
