Lot 189:
3 Japanese Style Resin Netsuke
Sold for: $35
Description
Height: 1.25 to 1.5 inches. A set of three molded composite resin netsuke figurines finished to simulate aged wood. Each figure features characteristic himotoshi holes on the reverse for securing to a sash. The subjects represent traditional Japanese cultural themes: a seated man with a large sack holding a Noh mask, a bearded sage with a folding fan, and an elderly figure holding a small puppet. The pieces are finished with a honey-colored patination and dark staining in the recesses to accentuate the details. The undersides are molded with a linear texture and lack any signatures or marks.
