Lot 135:
Large Hand Thrown Stoneware Poetry Vase
Sold for: $20
Description
8 x 5 inches. This large stoneware vase features a tall, cylindrical, hand-thrown form with a distinctive undulated or pinched waist and a slightly irregular profile. The exterior is finished in an off-white slip or glaze with horizontal gray-toned striations, serving as a canvas for hand-lettered calligraphic text in a dark oxide pigment. The visible text includes phrases such as Love A choice, To create a DREAM, To be, Unite in hand, Walk hand in, A VISION, Two and, and ONE. The interior is finished in a contrasting dark brown glaze that transitions to a subtle purple band at the inner rim. The base is flat and unglazed, revealing a dark brown clay body with circular potting marks (photo 2). No signature, maker’s name, or identifying mark is legible on the vessel or base.
