Description
This American military periscope, designated model M6, is constructed from heavy-gauge metal with a combined olive drab green and black painted finish. It is an optical instrument of the type utilized in armored vehicles such as the M4 Sherman tank. The unit features rectangular glass windows at the top and bottom. The front face is dominated by a central knurled adjustment knob, while two circular mechanical interface ports are situated on the side. A brass-toned identification plate is riveted to the side, bearing the printed text PERISCOPE, M6 and STOCK NO. 7578357; the serial number field is blank. The reverse side features a central mounting bracket. A yellowed paper label is adhered to the black-painted base, featuring a printed grid titled PERISCOPE ADJUSTMENT KNOB SETTINGS FOR THIS HEAD with headers for PERISCOPE SERIAL NO., ELEVATION SETTING, and DEFLECTION SETTING. A vertical serial number A205923 is printed along the right edge of this label.
