Description
A circular carved wood musical pedestal bowl or cake stand, decorated in the Swiss Black Forest style. The wide rim is relief-carved with a continuous wreath featuring Edelweiss flowers and smaller floral sprays set against a stippled background. The central well of the dish is smooth-turned wood. The piece rests on a tiered circular pedestal base that contains a mechanical musical movement. The underside reveals three turned wood feet, a brass butterfly-style winding key, and a pull-string start mechanism with a brass knob. A damaged and fragmentary paper label is present on the center of the base; it features an orange and tan decorative border and calligraphic script, though the text is not legible as a name or location. Measured across the widest point, the item measures approximately 10 3/4 inches in diameter.
