Description
A collection of early-to-mid 20th-century American paper goods and assorted ephemera. The lot includes a hardcover edition of "The Traveling Bears in New York" by Seymour Eaton. Also present are two issues of "The Illinois Herb Co. Almanac, " including the 1938 edition, both featuring cover illustrations of Native American life with the slogan "Herbs Are Nature’s Way to Health." A "Swamp-Root Dream Book Almanac" published by Dr. Kilmer & Co. of Binghamton, New York, is included, featuring similar thematic imagery. The collection contains a portrait print of actress Alice Faye, marked in the lower margin "A TWENTIETH CENTURY-FOX STAR ? 1938," and a color print of a harbor scene titled "San Pedro." Educational and informational items include a heavily worn copy of "The Arithmetical Primer or Underhill’s New Table Book" by Daniel C. Underhill, published by Collins & Brother, New York, and an orange-covered pamphlet titled "What YOU Should Know!" published by L. Heumann & Co., Inc. of New York. Postal history and documents include several envelopes postmarked in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania (1949) and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (1912). Notable philatelic items include a blue 3-cent "Minnesota Territorial Centennial 1849-1949" stamp and purple 4-cent Abraham Lincoln stamps. A 1912 gas utility bill from the Allegheny Heating Company, addressed to Jacob Wittmer of Pittsburgh, is also present. Miscellaneous items include a John F. Kennedy commemorative card, a floral "Forget-Me-Not" card, and two unopened packages of ornate metal filigree frames or furniture findings, one in a silver tone and one in a gold tone, mounted on floral-patterned backing.
