Description
This lot features two Chinese glass snuff bottles, each decorated using the inside-painting (Neihua) technique. The first bottle is made of clear glass in a rectangular form with beveled corners, featuring a polychrome scene of two pandas in a bamboo grove with pink blossoms. It is fitted with a domed reddish-brown hardstone stopper, likely carnelian or agate. The second bottle is of a flattened ovoid shape made from yellowish translucent glass. One side depicts a bird of prey perched upon a lotus plant, while the reverse shows waterfowl in a marsh setting. This bottle is topped with a translucent gray agate stopper. On the side featuring the bird of prey, there is a vertical calligraphic inscription in black ink; the first four characters are readable as ????, while the final three characters are not legible as a name. A small red seal is painted below the text, and a second red seal is visible on the waterfowl side. Measurements (from photo 5): Panda bottle height: 2.75 inches Bird bottle height: 3.25 inches.
