Description
A collection of contemporary pressed lead crystal and colored glass cup plates manufactured by the Pairpoint Glass Company. The group includes various examples in clear crystal, teal, amber, and emerald green glass. Each plate features an intaglio-style pressed design depicting regional Massachusetts landmarks, organizations, and commemorative events. Many plates are accompanied by their original white cardboard presentation boxes and descriptive paper inserts. Several plates retain a circular white adhesive label reading PAIRPOINT GLASS COMPANY SAGAMORE, MASS. surrounding a central logo of a glassblower. Legible text on the plates includes Granite City Stamp Club 50th Anniversary January, 1983 Quincy, Massachusetts; CAPE COD COMMUNITY COLLEGE 1961; EDAVILLE RAILROAD THE CRANBERRY BELT LINE South Carver, Massachusetts; OLD SHIP MEETING HOUSE HINGHAM, MASS. 1681; and BRIGGS-MCDERMOTT HOUSE 1665 – McDERMOTT HOUSE. One paper insert identifies a plate as CAPE COD YESTERDAYS Fourth in a Series of LITERARY CUP PLATES 1984 Commissioned by CAPE COD WRITERS’ CONFERENCE. Another identifies a plate titled THE SKATER commissioned by The Cape Cod Skating Club. Diameter: approximately 3.5 inches across the widest point.
