Description
A tabletop storage chest constructed of wood, featuring a hinged lift-top compartment over two drawers. The drawers are fitted with decorative metal ring pulls and the chest rests on four small bun feet. Accompanying the chest is a collection of turned wood decorative and functional objects, commonly referred to as treen. The collection includes a goblet, two vases of differing profiles and finishes, a bell-shaped form, a small lidded cylindrical box, a small lidded bowl, a small acorn-shaped finial, a mushroom-shaped pedestal stand, and a two-part egg-shaped sewing kit. The egg-shaped kit unscrews at the center to reveal a central wooden spool wound with black and white thread. The base of the lidded bowl bears a circular maroon adhesive label printed with the characters THE HAMPTON N & A INSTITU along the top edge, followed by MADE IN TRADE SCHOOL DEPARTMENT and HAMPTON below. The base of the mushroom-shaped pedestal is hand-inscribed in black ink with MILITARY MALL NORFOLK VA 1-21-81. Width of chest base: 12 inches.
