Description
This oil on canvas interior scene is executed in the atmospheric Hague School style. The composition features a mother seated at a wooden table, feeding an infant in her lap while a young child in a green bodice and red skirt stands beside them. A window draped with a white curtain illuminates the scene from the left, highlighting a vase of white blossoms on the table. A woven wicker cradle with white linens occupies the right foreground. The work is housed in a wide, gilded wood and composition frame. A rectangular brass nameplate is mounted to the center bottom of the frame, featuring the engraved title "Mothers Happiness." on the first line and "B. DE HOOG." on the second line. Faint markings are visible in the lower right corner of the canvas but are not clearly legible as a signature. 51×44
