Description
This hand-carved wood wall mask is crafted from a weathered, heart-shaped piece of salvaged lumber, exhibiting natural grain and vertical fissures. The face features large, deeply recessed circular eyes with white-painted surrounds and red radial sunburst-style pupils. A flat, white-painted bridge forms the nose above a wide, grinning mouth containing individually carved white teeth bordered by a thick red lip line. The outer perimeter of the face is painted in a sage green. The reverse of the mask features a metal sawtooth hanger and incised vertical characters reading HINA. The word HINA refers to a prominent goddess in Polynesian mythology, a common subject in Tiki-themed artwork. Across the widest point: approximately 8.25 inches Height: approximately 13 inches.
