Description
A mixed-media religious needlework piece, identified as a traditional German house blessing or Haussegen, executed on a perforated paper support. The central hand-embroidered text reads Unsern Eingang segne Gott, Unsern Ausgang gleichermassen, which translates as God bless our entrance and our exit likewise. The needlework is rendered in variegated shades of brown, green, and gold thread. The composition is framed by applied Victorian-era embossed and gilded paper scraps featuring three winged angels at the pediment and floral garlands flanking the text. The work is presented in a dark-stained, molded wooden frame under glass. The backing is constructed of cardboard secured with adhesive tape and includes a wire for hanging. No maker marks or signatures are visible on the artwork or the framing components. 15.6 inches height x 12.6 inches width.
