Description
A large Chinese porcelain floor vase of baluster form featuring a waisted neck and a wide, flared rim. The exterior is decorated with two central cartouches containing transfer-printed reproductions of a Northern Renaissance painting of the Madonna and Child. The scene depicts the Virgin Mary holding the Christ Child while two angels crown her against a Flemish cityscape. The surrounding areas are densely decorated with polychrome floral motifs and geometric patterns in a style imitating Japanese Satsuma ware, utilizing raised enamel moriage and gold-tone accents. The underside of the base bears a red and white oval adhesive label reading K.O.K MADE IN CHINA. A faint character resembling a stylized letter H is incised into the clay on the bottom. Height: 24 inches.
