Description

This collection consists of an oval lidded container, two silver-plated spoons, and two photograph cases. The lidded container features an all-over repousse design of sunflowers and scrolling acanthus foliage. The base of the container bears an impressed mark consisting of a shield containing an anchor, the word GORHAM in uppercase block letters, the numerals 56, the uppercase letter A, and a small oval symbol. The interior of the container and lid are lined with a blue fabric. One silver-plated spoon features a relief of a baby’s face on the handle terminal and is impressed with the words WINTHROP SILVER PLATE and Gerber’s. The second silver-plated spoon, in the Remembrance pattern, is impressed with the text 1847 ROGERS BROS., a square mark containing the letters IS, and the word Remembrance in a script font. The photograph cases include one closed case with a dark brown embossed exterior featuring a four-lobed foliate motif and one open case containing a portrait of a woman set within a gilded metal mat with an ornate scrolling border and a wooden inner frame.
