Description
This large-format scientific instrument consists of a 50-liter borosilicate glass globe mounted on a industrial sieve base. The spherical glass vessel features a short, tapered neck at its apex. The glass body bears two distinct identifications near the top. The first is a red printed circular logo that reads LABGLASS, INC. surrounding a central LG monogram, with VINELAND, N.J. at the bottom. Below this is a circular etched mark that reads 50000 Ml along the top edge, with a central seal reading T.M. REG. PYREX U.S. PAT. OFF. and MADE IN U.S.A. at the bottom. The globe is supported by a cylindrical metal base originally manufactured as an industrial sieve. The base features a black metal identification plate with brass-toned lettering that reads U.S. STANDARD SIEVE SERIES, OPENING 88 MICRONS, NO. 170, OPENING.0035 INCHES, (TYLER EQUIVALENT 170 MESH), THE W. S. TYLER COMPANY, and CLEVELAND 14, OHIO, U. S. A. The base is constructed of brass and metal alloys with a dark aged patina.
