Description
A mid-20th century United States Navy Chief Petty Officer Service Dress Blue uniform coat manufactured by the Davis Clothing Co. of Boston, Massachusetts. The garment is a double-breasted tunic made of dark navy blue wool, featuring six gold-tone buttons embossed with the US Navy eagle and anchor design. The left sleeve is adorned with a gold bullion rating badge for a Gunner’s Mate, which consists of an eagle perched above crossed cannons and three chevrons topped by an arc. Below the rating insignia are four gold bullion service stripes, signifying sixteen years of service under good conduct regulations. The jacket includes peak lapels, a left breast pocket, and two lower welt pockets. The interior is lined with a black fabric and contains an interior pocket where a white cloth label is located. The label is embroidered with the text: Davis Clothing Co. Boston Mass. Manufactured in accordance with U.S.N. Uniform Regulations.
