Description
This is a hand-carved wooden decorative mask originating from Ghana, as indicated by a label on the reverse. The mask is carved from a single block of wood with a dark-stained finish and features bold geometric patterns in red and white pigment. The facial structure includes a pointed chin, prominent red-painted lips, and large almond-shaped eye cutouts bordered by white V-shaped accents. A vertical strip with an incised and white-pigmented lattice pattern runs down the bridge of the nose. The forehead is adorned with a horizontal band of alternating red and white triangles, with the white triangles containing cross-hatched incisions. The crown of the mask is detailed with vertical parallel grooves representing a hairstyle or head covering. Small stylized ears are carved into the sides. The back of the mask shows visible rough-hewn chisel marks and a drier wood texture. Two labels are attached to the reverse: a small sticker stating HAND MADE IN GHANA 8×10
