Description
A hand-carved wooden bust representing a stylized female figure, characteristic of 20th-century African trade art. The figure is carved from a single block of reddish-brown hardwood with a polished finish. The head features stylized facial features, a high forehead, and textured hair that has been stained black for contrast. The subject is depicted with an elongated neck and exposed breasts. A beaded collar necklace is affixed around the neck, consisting of white and red seed beads with larger, off-white pendant beads. A dark decorative symbol resembling an inverted heart or spade is stained onto the upper chest and back area. The carving features a flat base integrated into the torso. 8.5 in high.
