Description
This lot contains two collectible lidded ceramic beer steins manufactured by Ceramarte in Brazil for Avon Products, Inc. The first stein, titled A Christmas Carol, is dated 1996. It features high-relief molded scenes from the Charles Dickens story, including the Ghosts of Christmas and Bob Cratchit with Tiny Tim. A central color-printed medallion depicts Ebenezer Scrooge. The vessel is designed with a distinctive quill-feather shaped handle and a metal lid topped with a ceramic character finial. The underside of the lid contains a metal disk embossed with the face of Jacob Marley as a door knocker. The base is fully marked with the Avon Collectibles logo and the number 55157. The second stein, titled The Gold Rush, was released in 1987. The body is decorated with relief-molded imagery of the American West, featuring a miner panning for gold, a frontier town street, and a horse-drawn stagecoach. It has a rope-style handle and a gold-toned metal lid. The lid is inset with a medallion replicating a San Francisco California Twenty D. gold coin. Both steins are constructed of glazed stoneware with hand-applied dark-wash accents to highlight the molded details. 9 in high.
