Description
This tool is an E.C. Stearns & Co. No. 6 adjustable plane gauge, also referred to as a jointer plane fence. Manufactured in Syracuse, New York, this specialized attachment is designed to be clamped to the side of a bench or jointer plane to facilitate planing edges at precise angles. The tool features a cast iron main frame with a black japanned finish and a slotted steel guide plate hinged to the body. Two circular roller guides with eccentric lever locks are located at either end for securing the gauge to the plane body. A central adjustment mechanism consists of a large knurled brass knob and a threaded rod used to set the desired angle of the fence. The central black frame is cast with the two-line mark E. C. STEARNS & CO / SYRACUSE, N. Y. and the numeral 6 is cast on the inner edge near the hinge point. 9 in long.
