Description
A late 19th-century water pitcher manufactured by the Middletown Plate Co. of Middletown, Connecticut. The piece features a bulbous form with a wide flared neck and a prominent pinched spout. The rim is decorated with a beaded or pie-crust edge. The body is embellished with chased floral and foliate motifs. It features an elaborately cast C-scroll handle decorated with acanthus leaf and foliate designs. The object is composed of quadruple-plated silver over a base metal, though it currently features a distressed copper-colored surface finish. The base features a stamped circular maker mark with MIDDLETOWN at the top arc and PLATE CO at the bottom arc. The center of the mark is stamped QUADRUPLE PLATE. The model number 112 is incised below the circular mark. 7 in high
