Lot 68:
Description
This neoclassical-style sculpture is the work of French artist Eutrope Bouret (1833?1906), as indicated by the incised signature on the pedestal base. The work depicts a female allegorical figure, likely representing the Muse Erato or a personification of Music, leaning against a lyre. The figure is rendered in classical drapery with a detailed braided coiffure. The sculpture is produced from cast white metal, commonly known as spelter, with a multi-toned bronze-effect patinated finish. The figure and lyre rest upon a square pedestal that is integrated into a circular base decorated with molded beaded and foliate bands. The construction is a hollow casting, and the underside reveals a lead-filled base used for stability and weighting. The name BOURET is clearly incised into the front face of the square pedestal. 17 inches tall.
