Raber Antique Special Auction 8-31-2026
Lot 360:
Description
This hand-carved wall sculpture is created from a single block of dense African hardwood. The piece features a stylized human face with closed eyes, a prominent nose, and slightly parted lips. The lower half of the work is carved smooth and finished with a dark, high-luster polish. The upper section retains the raw, unpolished exterior of the timber, displaying a weathered, pitted texture with natural fissures and boreholes, forming a stylized headdress or crown. The reverse of the sculpture has been carved flat and is equipped with a modern metal D-ring for wall mounting secured by two Phillips-head screws. No signatures, foundry marks, or maker labels are present.
