Description
This antique industrial wooden shipping crate was manufactured by E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company for the transport of high explosives. The box is constructed of thick wood panels featuring finger-jointed corners for structural reinforcement. The exterior is marked with original stenciled graphics in black and red ink. One end panel is stamped with 50 LBS. and 1 1/4 X 8 at the top corners. An arched DUPONT EXPLOSIVES logo sits above a red cross graphic flanked by the words RED and CROSS. Further markings on this panel include REGISTERED, U.S. PAT. OFF., EXTRA DYNAMITE, 40 % STRENGTH, and the production code 26-0E-512. The side panel features the warnings HIGH EXPLOSIVES and DANGEROUS, along with a regulatory I.C.C.-14 marking within a rectangular border. The interior of the crate shows natural wood grain with various stains and industrial residue. The original top lid is missing. 18x12x9
