Description

9.5×3.25 This 19th-century spice set consists of a large circular master container with a fitted lid and a collection of eight smaller internal canisters. The set is constructed from bentwood with metal reinforcement bands and lids featuring metal rims, likely tin or zinc. The master lid is stamped in black capital letters with the word SPICES. Each internal canister features a stamped label on its lid identifying the specific spice, including NUTMEGS, MUSTARD, CLOVES, ALLSPICE, CINNAMON, MACE, GINGER, and PEPPER. The internal canisters are designed to fit snugly within the master box. The construction utilizes overlapping wood seams secured with small fasteners, characteristic of late 19th-century domestic kitchenware.
