Description
This two-piece lot of Buffalo Pottery Deldare Ware includes a tall cylindrical pitcher and a footed cup. These items are constructed of earthenware with the characteristic olive-green glaze. The decoration features Old English genre scenes of 18th-century gentlemen, executed with hand-painted underglaze colors over transfer-printed outlines against backgrounds of Tudor-style houses and rural landscapes. The pitcher body includes handwritten captions reading All you have to do Teach the Dutchmen English and The Great Controversy. The base of the pitcher is stamped with the black underglaze Buffalo Pottery logo, marked MADE AT YE BUFFALO POTTERY 19 08 and DELDARE WARE UNDERGLAZE 1908. The base of the cup is marked with the number 5 and two horizontal bars. 12.5 in picture with hairlines. cup is 3 inches with chip.
