Description

This is a large Spanish ratchet-lock folding knife, historically known as a navaja de carraca. The carbon steel blade features an exaggerated hawkbill or sickle profile, a style colloquially referred to as a Saca Tripas. The blade is constructed with a notched spine designed to engage with a ratchet mechanism, which is operated via a metal pull-ring release. One side of the blade is decorated with an etched Spanish motto that reads: En la punta de mi acero el valor se encuentra y al m?s duro cuerpo rinde cuenta. The handle is composed of segmented natural horn in contrasting blonde and dark tones, secured with metal bolsters and pins. This example is characteristic of late 19th to early 20th-century cutlery production from the Albacete region of Spain.
