Lot 135:
Description
This lot contains two American stoneware vessels finished in a dark brown Albany-type slip glaze, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. The first vessel is a batter jug featuring an ovoid body, a wide mouth, and a stout pouring spout. It is equipped with two molded ceramic side loops that secure a wire bail handle with a turned wooden grip. The base of the jug is decorated with several vertical finger-drip or thumbprint markings in a lighter slip glaze. The second vessel is a globular harvest jug with an overhead loop handle and two shoulder spouts, consisting of a large filling spout and a smaller air vent. Both items have unglazed bases and lack visible maker marks or capacity stamps. Small is 8 inches tall and has a crack. The other is 10.5 in.
