Description
43.5x21x20.5 This blanket chest is constructed in the American Empire style from the late Federal period. The primary wood is cherry, exhibiting a warm reddish-brown patina, while the secondary wood used for the interior and till construction is poplar. The case features hand-cut dovetail joinery at all four corners with visible scribe lines from the layout process. The lift-top lid is finished with a molded edge and opens to an interior that includes a hinged till or glove box located on the left-hand side. The chest is supported by a molded base that terminates in four turned ball feet. A circular brass keyhole escutcheon is centered on the front panel. The hardware includes modern chrome-finished butt hinges and a simple metal strike plate mounted to the underside of the lid.
