Lot 64:
Description
.5 in tallA decorative cast iron tabletop twine or string dispenser designed in a Victorian revival style. The object features a two-part spherical cage with repeating arched open-work piercings. The lower hemisphere is permanently fixed to a flared, fluted pedestal base, while the upper hemisphere serves as a removable lid. A circular ring finial at the top center acts as the dispensing eyelet for the twine. The piece is finished in a cream-colored paint that has been heavily distressed to reveal the dark cast iron underneath, creating an aged aesthetic. The underside of the base reveals a central hexagonal nut and threaded bolt assembly that secures the pedestal to the cage, along with three green felt protective pads. No manufacturer marks, signatures, or stamps are present. The dispenser includes a partial ball of natural fiber cotton twine.
