Description
12x16x13 A vintage wooden soda bottle crate featuring advertising for the grapefruit-flavored soft drink Squirt. The crate is constructed of wood panels with galvanized metal corner reinforcements secured by nails. The front and back exterior panels, as well as one interior panel, are screen-printed with the text SWITCH TO in black sans-serif block letters above the stylized Squirt logo in red script, followed by the slogan NEVER AN AFTER THIRST in black block letters. The end panels feature the red Squirt script logo above the text STAR BOTTLING CO. / YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO / PHONE RI-3-8419. The end panels also feature hand-cut rectangular handle openings. The two-letter prefix phone number suggests a manufacturing date in the mid-20th century, likely the 1950s or 1960s.
