Lot 5:
Description
This antique fishing creel is constructed from hand-woven wicker, likely split willow or reed, featuring a traditional pot-bellied shape with a flat, hinged lid. The lid includes a rectangular fish hole for inserting catch. It is secured to the back of the basket with two leather strap hinges held by metal rivets. The front closure consists of a metal hasp and staple latch. A braided rope carrying strap is threaded through the back of the creel and is knotted for adjustment. The interior shows the raw underside of the wicker weave. An auction tag from Atlee Raber Auctions marked with lot number 51 is attached to the strap. No manufacturer marks, stamps, or signatures are visible on the item.
