Description
A collection of three vintage musical jack-in-the-box toys manufactured by Mattel, Inc. The assortment includes one traditional clown model, one Peanuts-themed model, and one Mother Goose-themed model. The clown jack-in-the-box is constructed with a lithographed tin body featuring various clown illustrations on each panel. The pop-up figure consists of a molded plastic clown head with a red felt hat attached to a metal coil spring. The box is marked Decor by Louis Song and Mattel Incorporated, Los Angeles, Calif, with stock number 607 and patent dates for 1947 and 1952. The Snoopy in the Music Box toy features a lithographed tin body decorated with Peanuts characters including Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, and Schroeder. The pop-up figure is a plastic Snoopy head with one black ear and a white cloth ruff. The tin lid displays the red Mattel sunburst logo. It is marked with copyright dates of 1950 for United Feature Syndicate and 1966 for Mattel. The Mother Goose musical toy is constructed with a red molded plastic frame and yellow plastic lid, housing four lithographed tin side panels. The panels illustrate nursery rhymes including Song of Sixpence, Little Bo Peep, and Little Boy Blue. The pop-up figure features a plastic Mother Goose head with a green hat and a blue and green cloth body. The lid is embossed with the Mattel brand name and the panel margin is marked with a 1971 copyright date. All three toys utilize a manual hand-cranked musical mechanism designed to release the lid and pop up the figure at the conclusion of the melody.
